William D.
Meybohm
Dec 22, 1945 — Jul 14, 2026
William Dietrich Meybohm's soul soared to Heaven on July 14th, one day short of his 59th wedding anniversary, at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY at the age of 80.
Born in Poughkeepsie on December 22, 1945, William was the son of William D. Meybohm Sr. and Mary (Horton) Meybohm of Staatsburg. He attended Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park where he played soccer and baseball and graduated in 1965. He enlisted in the Navy Reserves before his graduation and served from January 1963 to January 1965.
Two years later, he married his high school sweetheart Pamela Rieker on July 15, 1967. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising their two sons, Matthew and Ethan, and spending nearly six wonderful decades together between the Poughkeepsie area and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
William was a loving husband, a proud father, and a lover of all sports– especially baseball as he was a lifelong Dodgers fan. He played golf and softball in a local men's league. He was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers.
He started coaching the Wappingers Little League when his son, Matt, began t-ball and went on to coach Ethan as well. He coached at all levels for over 20 years. With his coaching efforts, numerous district and section titles were won and he created lifelong friendships with many of the players. In 1987, he captivated Dutchess County by taking the Wappingers Junior League All Stars to the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan where they came in second place to a team from California. He talked sports with anyone, always learned from the conversations, and passed the knowledge on to his team.
William worked as a manager for over 25 years for Beneficial Finance which became part of HSBC. After growing bored with retirement, he worked at Ulster Savings Bank. He also loved black cherry ice cream, any cookies with chocolate chips in them, cigars, beer, and anything on the ESPN channel. He also loved fishing and collected old rods and reels.
He will forever be remembered for his love of the Dodgers, his infectious laugh, and the way he couldn't get through telling a joke without laughing at it himself.
William is survived by his wife Pamela (Rieker) Meybohm, his brother Donald, his sons Matthew (Marci) and Ethan (Christine), his grandchildren Jared (Sophia) Meybohm, Nicole (Courtney) Gregory, Connor and Tyler Meybohm, as well as Caroline Grier. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Bryson, Maddyn, and Camryn Gregory and Lucia Meybohm.
Preceding him in death were two half brothers, William and Joseph Balis, half-sister Deloris Crump, and great granddaughter Taytum Danielle Gregory.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Sweets Funeral Home: 4365 Albany Post Road Hyde Park, NY. Family suggests any donations be made to Sadie's Place at 22 Fairmont Ave., Poughkeepsie NY 12603 or www.sadiesplaceny.com.
