William James Givison Sr., 78, of Pleasant Valley, NY passed away quietly on August 2, 2021, at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born on January 8, 1943 and spent most of his life in the Hudson Valley. Bill was supported in life and in his final moments by loving friends and family.
Bill was a union electrician whose legacy remains in many buildings around the Hudson Valley. In retirement, Bill continued to love his workbench and completed many electrical projects at home. Bill was also an avid golfer and enjoyed the sport even as a spectator; he loved the game so much he constructed his early retirement home on the 9th hole of a golf course in Longs, South Carolina. He and his wife, Sharon, enjoyed their time as members of the Longs community. Together they loved cruising, entertaining friends, and watching their grandchildren grow up.
Bill was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Sharon Elaine Givison (Fischer), and his son, William James Givison Jr.; as well as his mother, Evelyn Ruth Givison (King), and father, John Thomas Givison.
He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Robertson, and husband, Clayton, of Hyde Park, Joanne Prefontaine, and husband, Donald, of Centerville, MA; his grandsons, William J. Givison III and Tyler Givison, his granddaughter, Briana Givison; and several nieces and nephews. Bill valued his long-term friendship with Paul and Lisa Lipinski; the family wishes to thank them for the years of care, support and laughter they provided.
Bill was an animal lover and was especially fond of his two surviving cats, Abba and Anna.
There will be a memorial service for friends and family at a later date. Many stories will be shared about Bill and his distaste of vegetables.
