William M.
Gilmore
Dec 22, 1964 — Aug 14, 2023
William M. Gilmore, 58, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully at home following a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's Disease on August 14, 2023, with his family by his side.
Born December 22, 1964, in Rhinebeck, he was the son of the late Jack Gilmore Sr. and Marion Turner Gilmore.
In 1986, Bill founded Gilmore Water and Transportation in Hyde Park, a company he passionately ran until he had to retire due to his illness. He proudly passed down his company to his oldest daughter, Jessica and son-in-law, John who continue Bill's legacy and hard work ethic in the community.
On March 27, 1991, in Hyde Park, he married the former Calvalena Burchett. Mrs. Gilmore survives at home after being a compassionate caregiver to her husband for the past 5 years through his battle.
Bill enjoyed traveling with his family and road trips on the weekends. He was an avid New York Mets fan. He took great pride in taking care of his home, rental properties, and business. He could often be found in his barn, mowing his lawn, or in his yard working on his trucks.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his three daughters, Jessica Petti and husband, John, Kaitlyn Hornicek and husband, Greg, and Chelsea Gilmore, all of Hyde Park; and three grandchildren, Audrey, John, and William Petti. Bill's family was his pride and joy, and they will continue to value being together just as he always did.
He is also survived by his sister, Colleen Derby and husband, Jay, and brother, Jack Gilmore and wife, Gloria, both of Hyde Park; sister, Mary Breeden and husband, Shane, of Rockford, IL; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, August 16th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Bill's funeral services and burial in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park will be private.
The Gilmore family would like to send special thanks to his wonderful Hospice caregiving team consisting of Kelly, Schcola, Jamie, Mary, Corrine, and Ben. Additionally, they would like to thank Paul for all of his care throughout the past few years. Without these individuals, Bill would not have been able to stay at his home surrounded by his loving family until the end, just like he always wanted.
In lieu of flowers, the Gilmore family respectfully requests memorial donations to Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (www.hvhospice.org)
