William A. Gibson Sr., 79, of Salt Point, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

Born on November 4, 1946, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Matthew Simon Gibson Sr. and Marjorie Mary Lee Gibson.

William was a longtime employee of the Arlington Central School District, where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. A hardworking and capable man, he enjoyed working with his hands and was always willing to take on something new.

On August 23, 1969. William married the former Lynnette Carson, Together, they shared many years of memories until Lynnette's passing on August 11th, 2026.

An avid outdoorsman, William had a lifelong love of hunting, fishing, and camping. In his younger years, he also enjoyed playing softball. Whether spending time in the woods, tending to his garden, or simply enjoying the outdoors, he was happiest when he was keeping busy.

William also enjoyed cooking, canning, and baking. He was always willing to try his hand at something new and took great satisfaction in the things he could grow, make, fix, or create himself.

Most of all he loved spending time with his family, making sure to incorporate them in everything he did with them.

Survivors include his two sons, Craig Gibson and his wife, Lisa, and William Gibson Jr. and his wife, Michelle, as well as five grandchildren.

William is survived by and predeceased by many siblings.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 4 PM, Sunday, October 4th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
