Obituary

William "Billy" Ellis, Jr., a man whose laughter was as infectious as his tow truck was reliable, has left us with a treasure trove of joyful memories. Born on October 1, 1954, in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the son of William and Helen Mae Ellis. His journey came to a peaceful end on May 9, 2024, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

Billy graduated from F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, where he was known for his quick wit and his even quicker ability to make friends. After donning the cap and gown, he rolled up his sleeves. Billy applied his strong work ethic and infectious sense of humor to Molts Used Auto Parts, where he became the most jovial tow truck driver you'd ever meet, serving the community for many years.

Love for Billy wasn't just a pit stop; it was the finish line. On a sunny day in Pleasant Valley, July 20, 1996, Billy married the love of his life, Stephanie Plass Ellis. Together, they navigated the winding roads of life with laughter, love, and a shared passion for racing—Dale Earnhardt, to be exact. Billy's pit crew in life was his cherished family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Stephanie, who continues to wave the checkered flag of their love. He is also survived by Aaron Plass and Wayne Ellis of Hyde Park, Billy Tucker of Connecticut and Sean Ellis, and his daughter, Haley Millard from Poughkeepsie, NY, siblings, Linda Rotella, Vickie Traver, Debi Knauss, all from Poughkeepsie, brother Tommy Ellis, and sister Missie Worna. Each of them can attest that Billy was the family's headlining act.

Billy was a man who could find the humor in any situation. He was the guy who, when life gave him lemons, not only made lemonade but also managed to sell it to a used car salesman. He was loving, friendly, and funny—three words that don't just describe him; they encapsulate a life well-lived. As a racing fan, Billy knew life was about the laps, not just the finish line. He made every lap count, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and memories that his family and friends will cherish in the many years to come.

So here's to William "Billy" Ellis, Jr., the man who could change a tire, lift your spirits, and leave you laughing all in the same breath. Although his final lap has been completed, the race will go on in the hearts and stories of those who loved him. We'll miss your humor, your warmth, and the way you made life seem like one grand, joyous ride. Rev those engines in heaven, Billy; we know you've got them roaring with laughter already.
