Dougher

William Michael "Bill" Dougher, a cherished husband, devoted father, beloved brother, and doting grandfather, passed away tragically in a motor vehicle accident on January 23, 2025, at Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Born on June 26, 1956, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, Bill's 68 years of life were marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, loved ones, and successful career.
Bill grew up in Peekskill, NY where he met his high school sweetheart and true love, Betty, with whom he would devote the next 52 years of his life with. Together they attended Indiana State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminology in 1979. This education paved the way for a remarkable career with IBM as a Corporate Security Program Manager, a role that fulfilled him professionally and provided him the opportunity to travel the world. Bill's work not only safeguarded systems and information but also set a standard for excellence, influencing security practices across the globe.
Beyond his professional life, Bill's true joy and fulfillment was found in the warm embrace of his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Dougher, and his daughters, Caitlin Distasio and Kelly Dougher, and son-in-law, Donald Distasio who will forever cherish the memories of a father whose love knew no bounds.
Bill's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Donny and Audrey, who will miss their Papa's playful spirit and big hugs.
Bill's incomparable humor and thoughtful nature extended to his siblings, who remember him with profound fondness. He leaves behind his sisters and brother: Patricia (Owen) O'Sullivan, Rayola Dougher (Don Norman), Coleen (Todd) Widmeyer, Maureen (Peter) Vermazen, and Raymond (Layla) Dougher, fifteen nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
His life was predeceased by his brother, Michael, and his parents, William J. and Ann Dougher, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.
An individual of many interests, Bill was an avid reader of history. He also enjoyed target shooting, a hobby that showcased his focus and discipline. However, nothing compared to the time he spent with his adored grandchildren, always beaming with joy at their accomplishments and the wonderful individuals they were becoming. His love for them was a source of immense pride and happiness.
Bill's faithful rat terrier, Duffy, was a constant companion and a source of joy and laughter for the family. Their bond was a friendship that brought him comfort and unwavering love.
Those who knew Bill will remember a man who was as funny as he was loving, as thoughtful as he was dedicated.
His sense of humor brought light to every room, and his caring nature made him a pillar of strength for those he loved. Bill's impact on the world around him was as profound as it was gentle, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Bill, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and kindness. His memory will live on, not only in the hearts of his family and friends but also through the countless stories and moments of joy he left behind.
