Virginia Nelson Lake, 100, of Stillwater, MN, formerly of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on May 14, 2024.

Born in Hyde Park on March 11, 1924, she was the daughter of Horatio and Florence Todd Nelson.

A graduate of F. D. Roosevelt High School and Lasell Junior College in Auburndale, MA, she worked at Dutchess Community College and the former Card T

avel, both in Poughkeepsie.

She was formerly active with the First Baptist Church of Poughkeepsie Ladies Auxiliary, St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, Hyde Park AARP, and Hyde Park Historical Society.

On July 11, 1948, at the First Baptist Church of Poughkeepsie, she married Frederick H. Lake. Her husband predeceased her in 1969.

Virginia volunteered at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie for several years before moving. In Minnesota, she volunteered at Lakeview Hospital and at Boutwells Landing Retirement Home, both in Stillwater, MN.

In addition to her husband, Virginia is preceded in death by her brother, Elmer T. Nelson; parents, Horatio W. and Florence Todd Nelson.

She is survived by children, Richard (Andrea), Douglas (Betsy), Nancy (Martin) Gaines; grandchildren, Benjamin E. Lake, Ashley Gaines, Lindsay Gaines, Todd Gaines, Alexander Lake, and Shams Lake; great-grandson, Milo Lake; nephews, J. Todd Nelson and Robert M. Nelson and their children.

Relatives and friends may call from 9 am to 10 am at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park, NY.  Funeral services will begin at 10 am with the Rev. Arlene Dawber, officiating.  Interment will follow at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
