Obituary

Virginia A. "Ginny" Buechele, a lifelong resident of Dutchess County, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024 after a fulfilled life that touched many within her community. Born on September 18, 1946 in Poughkeepsie, to the late Eugene R. Buechele and Alice M. (Hawkes) Buechele, Ginny was known for her vibrant spirit, her dedication to historic preservation, and her unwavering love for her family.

Ginny attended Arlington High School, graduating with the class of 1964. Her pursuit of knowledge and passion for law led her to complete the Marist Paralegal program in 1998, which became the foundation of her professional career. Her work as an administrative assistant and paralegal was marked by dedication and excellence, paving the way for her significant contributions to her community upon retirement.

After many active and successful years in her profession, Ginny dedicated herself to her role as a local historian and genealogist. She served two terms as a Fairview Fire Commissioner and made a lasting impact through her work as a historic preservationist. Ginny had an unparalleled commitment to her community, with a particular interest in the heritage of Dutchess and Putnam counties.

Her family roots were a source of pride and a wellspring of her lifetime achievements. Ginny's 20+ years of research, especially her collaboration with Vassar College on the Dutchess County Poorhouse Cemetery project, were among her most notable accomplishments. Known as "Brier Hill" in the town of Washington, her work shed invaluable light on a forgotten chapter of history. In 2004, Ginny's contributions were honored by The Dutchess County Historical Society, with the presentation of The Helen Wilkinson Reynolds Award, and the National Society of The Daughters of the American Revolution recognized her outstanding work in historic preservation in 2006.

Despite her many professional achievements and community engagements, Ginny's heart was always with her family. She was predeceased by her brother Alvin E. Buechele and her parents. Her legacy lives on through her loving children, Krista A. Broas, Allison R. (Broas) Rossi, and Cyndy L. Broas. Ginny was a cherished grandmother to Marissa N. DiNonno, Bryan A.J. DiNonno, Jakob A. DiNonno, John T. Rossi Jr., and Alexandra J. Rossi. Her joy was multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Owen DiNonno and Ava DiNonno.

Ginny's life was a tapestry of community activism, family genealogy, and treasured moments with her loved ones. Her warmth, wisdom, and unfailing sense of humor were a beacon to all who knew her. She was a mentor, a colleague, and above all, a friend. The impact of her work and the love she bestowed upon her family will resonate for generations to come.

Ginny's passing is a profound loss to her family, friends, and all the lives she touched. Her family takes solace in the knowledge that her spirit will live on in the community she helped shape, and in the legacy of research and preservation she leaves behind.

Virginia A. "Ginny" Buechele's life was a testament to the power of passion, the importance of history, and the enduring bond of family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a cornerstone of her community and a guiding light to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
