Sep 6, 1939 — Oct 10, 2022
Vincent Roland Tartaglia, 83, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2022, at The Eleanor Nursing Care Center.
Born September 6, 1939, in Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of Dominick and Albina Gnaulati Tartaglia. As a young man, he proudly served in the Scottish Merchant Marines.
Active in hunt service for most of his life, Vincent was huntsman for the Rombout Hunt in the Town of Clinton for over 25 years, retiring in 2006. He was a Lifetime-Member of the Professional Horseman Association (and President of the Dutchess County Chapter for 8 years), lifelong member of the Master of Foxhounds Association, and former District Commissioner of the Southlands Pony Club and Running Fox Pony Club.
He also worked for a time at Ferncliff Nursing Home and at Stop & Shop in Hyde Park.
Throughout his career, he was involved in the community. He served on the West Clinton Fire Dept. Rescue Squad as a volunteer certified EMT for 15 years and was named Person of the Year for 1997-98. From 1995 to 2000, he worked with the Dutchess County SPCA as Humane Law Enforcement Officer, where he investigated allegations of cruelty to animals.
Vincent was a lifelong musician. In his younger years in Scotland, he played guitar and was the lead singer for the band, Clay Nicholls & the Blue Flames. Their claim to fame was that they once toured with American Rock & Roll musicians, Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent, in Europe.
Survivors include his two children, Lisa M. Tartaglia, and husband, Gerald Schrieber, of Allentown, NJ, and Vincent John Tartaglia of Hyde Park; and his former wife, Christine A. Tartaglia of Wappingers Falls.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Vincent's family respectfully requests memorial donations to Regina Coeli Church, 2 Harvey Street, Hyde Park, NY 12538. (www.reginacoelihydepark.com)
