Hyde Park - Thomas A. Wood, 63, a lifelong area resident, died on January 31, 2024, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. He was affectionately known to his close friends as "Meatball."

Born April 5, 1960, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Robert and Mary Callahan Wood.

Tom worked at Vassar Brother's Hospital, Poughkeepsie in many different capacities for over thirty years.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and taking his daily walks near his Hyde Park home on Rte. 9G. During the Summer months, he loved spending time in his pool, especially with

his grandson.

On September 25, 1980, he married the former Melanie L. Smith. His wife survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Heather and Christina Wood; son, Thomas Wood Jr.; and grandson, Kaleb Wood.

He is also survived by his sisters, Theresa Nace (Richard Adolphsen), and Janice Taylor; brother, Patrick Wood; and several nieces and nephews. The special people in his life include Charles Morgan, Larry and Tina Pendelton, his Jake the snake, and Bubba.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Wood; and sister-in-law, Sherry Wood.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 6 PM, Sunday, February 4th, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

A Celebration of Tom's life will take place at 4:30 PM, Sunday, during the calling hours.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow.
