Obituary

Teddy A Poznack, 67, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 14, 2023 after a courageous five- plus year battle with esophageal cancer.

Born September 14, 1955 to Chester and Marie (Villanova) Poznack, he grew up in Huntington, New York before moving to Pleasant Valley in 1996. He was a 33 year employee of the United States Postal Service retiring in 2017 as the Supervisor of Postal Operations at the Rhinebeck Post Office.

A life member of the Casperkill Game Club, Ted was an avid outsdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, gardening, tending to his summer sheep and working around his small farm. He loved waking each day to a view of the mountains, watching spectacular sunsets from the deck of his home and dancing under the harvest moon with his wife Virginia. He instilled his love of nature to his son Jessie, nephew Jared and later to his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as T-Pa. An exercise in contradiction, Ted was a lovable curmudgeon and a generous cheapskate with an off-beat sense of humor and a penchant for (intentionally) mispronouncing words which became known as Teddy-isms. He was fond of nicknaming family, friends and coworkers. He was loyal and honest to a fault.

Shortly after retirement Ted and Virginia began crafting beautiful bird houses and selling them at local craft fairs under the name Harvest Moon Homestead. The business developed a successful following with happy customers from near and far who appreciated Ted's meticulous workmanship and unique designs.

Ted is survived by his loving and devoted wife, the former Virginia Siegrist; his son Jessie Poznack (Dawn), Port Jefferson, NY; step-daughter Brooke O'Connell (Brian), Poughkeepsie; sister Cathy Brueggeman (Harold), Stamford, NY; brother Steven Poznack (Lucille) Clayton, NC; nephew Jared Brueggeman, Stamford, NY; niece Jillian Krause, Corpus Cristi, TX; grandchildren and Ted's best buddies Maggie and Declan O'Connell as well as Anthony Nittolo and Jordan Morano. He is also survived by an extended loving family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Barbara Pizza and his nephew Chad Harrison.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hudson Valley Hospice, particularly Kelly Kuhnle and Rebecca Boucher as well as close personal friend Susan Niet Horth for their support in Ted's final days.

Friends will be received at Sweet's Funeral Home, 4365 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park on Wednesday January 18th from 4 to 7pm.

A mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday January 19th at 9:45AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

Internment will follow at Crum Elbow Cemetery, North Quaker Lane, Hyde Park.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hudson Valley Hospice, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or The Crum Elbow Cemetery Association, 26 Mountain View Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603, for restoration of the cemetery's historic Quaker Meeting House.
