Susie Desmond, 57, of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023, at Vassar Brothers Hospital, with her loving father and siblings by her side.

For the previous 31 years, Susie lived under the compassionate and loving care of The ARC Greater Hudson Valley.

Susie loved twirling and marching in parades as a member of Harriett's Twirlers and was also a regular participant in the Special Olympics, earning numerous ribbons and awards for her efforts.

Susie also enjoyed time at her lake house in the Pocono Mountains, doing her favorite puzzles, swimming in the backyard, and going to McDonald's for lunch.

Susie made friends everywhere she went. If you were fortunate enough to have met her, you knew you had a friend for life.

Susie is predeceased by her mother, June Desmond, of Hyde Park, in 1998. Susie is survived by her father, Ed Desmond, Sr., and his life partner, Ruth Lauria, of Hyde Park, and her siblings, Sharon Hare (Jeff) of Staatsburg, Ed Desmond (Renee Benzel) of Arlington, Virginia, Dawn Desmond (George Darling) of Wappingers Falls, and George Desmond (Lisa Rao) of Hyde Park. Susie is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Kathy Desmond and Karen Desmond, nieces and nephews Amy Hare, Dan Hare, Erin Ullrich, Alyssa Desmond, Emily Desmond, Michael Desmond, and Allison Desmond, and her favorite neighbor, Vinnie "Barbarino" Arata.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, November 1st, from 4pm to 8pm at Sweets Funeral Home, 4365 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park, NY 12538.

Funeral Services will be at 10AM on Thursday, November 2nd, at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
