Obituary

On July 24, 2026, my mom, Sue Mercay, went to her eternal home. She passed away peacefully with a smile on her face. She was born on July 26, 1950, in Brooklyn New York to Muriel and Clement Capuano who are both deceased. Mom had three wonderful sisters who she would also call friends: Lorraine Capuano-Casella, Marian Nardone (deceased), and Diane Capuano. Sue graduated from Good Shepherd Elementary School and Saint Edmund's High School Class of 1968. She was raised in a Christian home where she would say she was introduced to Jesus. Mom was abundantly blessed with great love from her family. She spent her summers living in the Community House with her family at our cherished extended family estate called OSCO MANOR. We all have precious memories from that magical place that will live on forever in our hearts.

In 1969, my mom married John Mercay, and they lived in Pawling for a time until they moved to Hopewell Junction. I (Brenda Bovee) was born on July 9, 1971. I could not ask for a more amazing mother. Her years of love, sacrifice, and dedication have blessed me beyond measure. Mom was my biggest fan. She supported my involvement with music right up until her last days. She loved to tell people she did not miss a single concert since I started in fourth grade. I will miss seeing her as my cheerleader giving a standing ovation and encouraging others to do the same!

Mom worked as a professional housekeeper/manager for Pawling Properties Associates in Pawling for 31 years. Her work ethic was legendary, and she loved her job as well as the family she worked for. They treated her like family and took very good care of my mom. After retiring, she eventually moved to Hyde Park.

My mother had a very strong faith in the Lord and was not afraid to share it. She was deeply committed to serving at Reach Out Church in various ways. She was faithful to serving in the food pantry, hospitality committee, welcoming committee, and being a care person for new people. Mom loved cleaning so much that she chose to do it for the church and enjoyed every minute of it. In addition to all this, one of her biggest joys was ministering to the people at the Hyde Park Assisted Living Center.

My husband (Brian Bovee), children (Benjamin Bovee and Rachel Bovee), daughter in law (Rayna Bovee), and grandchildren (Izaiah and Elsie Bovee; who affectionally called her GG) will remember my mother as their most faithful prayer warrior and encourager. Mom lived for her family and demonstrated her love for all of us in countless ways. We know that she is rejoicing in heaven because her faith has become sight. Mom is finally free as she embraces all that her confident hope in Jesus has to offer. We will see her again someday, but until then, may we continue her faith filled legacy of love, hope, peace and joy all found in Jesus.
