Gold
Jun 3, 1941 — Aug 28, 2022
Stephan J. Gold, 81, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, passed away August 28, 2022, after a brief illness.
Born June 3, 1941, in Great Neck, New York, Steve was the son of the late Daniel and Sally Leader Gold. In 1971, he married the love of his life, the former Hedy Preuss, in Poughkeepsie, who predeceased him in 2013.
Steve was a 1959 graduate of Great Neck North High School, a 1963 graduate of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a 1966 graduate of Harvard Law School.
Steve was gracious, loving and generous. With his prestigious degrees, he chose to teach, inspiring generations of students in both the Hyde Park Central Schools as well as the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) over the course of a teaching career spanning nearly 40 years. Steve and Hedy are of legendary memory for their teaching and coaching CIA graduates who are leading some of the most prestigious restaurants in the country. During much of his time at the CIA, Steve also maintained a successful law practice.
Steve had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. Earlier in his life, he flew model airplanes, rode motorcycles, and enjoyed fishing and boating on the Hudson River. Lifelong pursuits included golf, a deep appreciation for both contemporary and classical music, and watching science fiction and action films. He also had a sharp wit and was an expert at telling perfectly delivered jokes to his family, friends, and students.
Steve was also predeceased by his sister, Carole Jacobson, in 2016, and his brother-in-law, David Jacobson, in 2021. He is survived by his niece, Robin Engelson, and her husband, Larry Yogel, of Naples, Florida, his nephews, Mark Jacobson, and his wife, Anneliese, of Raritan Township, New Jersey, and Brad Jacobson of Brooklyn, New York, six great-nieces and nephews, and will be remembered by many dear friends.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Hyde Park.
