Obituary

Salvatore A. Cioffi, 88, died in the comfort of his home in Hyde Park, surrounded by family on October 28, 2023.

Salvatore was born on December 4, 1934, in Manhattan, NY to the late Pasquale and Mary (Lombardi) Cioffi. His family moved upstate and built their home in Beacon. After high school, his interest in chemistry led him to pursue a degree in pharmacy. He graduated from St John's University

in 1956. During college, he met Rita Hyland while marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade and in 1957, they married at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Brooklyn.

Sal & Rita spent two years in Manhattan, KS where he proudly served in the US Army and their first child was born. They returned to Brooklyn where Sal worked as a retail pharmacist before settling in Hyde Park to raise a family of five.

He owned and worked at Violet Avenue Pharmacy in Poughkeepsie for many years. After selling his business, he continued to work at Molloy Pharmacy in Hyde Park until his retirement. He took great pride in his work and was dedicated to his profession. He enjoyed serving many loyal customers in the community over the years.

He was proud of his heritage and enjoyed large Italian meals with family. He found great pleasure in summer vacations, barbecuing and relaxing in his yard. He often spent time at Quiet Cove admiring the picturesque views of the Hudson River. His enthusiasm for music included listening to jazz and big band. Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett were among his favorite artists. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Giants fan.

He was a communicant of Regina Coeli Church. His devotion to and faith in God gave him strength and comfort throughout his life.

Sal will be remembered for his warm and welcoming smile. He had a great sense of humor and loved making other people laugh. Sal will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Thank you to all the special caregivers in recent years who helped him live comfortably in his own home.
