Obituary

Salvatore V. Baratta, 88, died peacefully at his home in the Town of Poughkeepsie on November 20, 2022, with his wife, Hilda, and son, Wayne, by his side.

He was born at home on Albany Street, in the City of Poughkeepsie, to Temistocle (Thomas) and Mary (Mamie) Baratta on December 2, 1933. Raised in Poughkeepsie, he was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School.

He married the love of his life, the former Hilda Wooley, on Sept 28, 1958, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. They resided in the Town of Hyde Park for 62 years, moving to the Town of Poughkeepsie in 2020.

He was employed at Schatz Federal Bearing and then the Hyde Park Central School District for over 30 years, where he also served as President of the CSEA for many years. He retired from there to spend more time at his business, Fishkill Beer & Soda, which he and his wife owned for 18 years.

Sal's life was all about spending quality time with his family. He enjoyed traveling to Disney and other destinations. He was always at both of his sons' sides and was proud that they were the first in his immediate family to receive a college degree.

He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up and cherished the time he was able to spend with them. He was proud to have attended their births, graduations, and other major events in their lives.

Salvatore is survived by his wife, Hilda, of 64 precious years, as well as his two sons, David Baratta, and his wife, Jennifer, of Cary, NC, and their children, Nicholas, Paige and her husband, Tripp Simmons, Olivia and her partner, Kidus Woldeyes, all of North Carolina; and Wayne Baratta, and his wife, Laura, and their children, Jade, Austin, and Dylan, all of Hyde Park.

He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Joyce Wooley Rogozinski, of Florida and her deceased husband, Frank, who welcomed them into their home for many winter visits.

Additionally, survivors include several cousins, nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much, and countless friends. His great smile will be missed by all.

He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mamie, and brother, John L. Baratta.

Per Sal's wishes, there will not be any calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington St., Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 (www.hvhospice.org). They gave Sal so much TLC for five months and supported Hilda throughout.
