Rosalie Ann
Martell
Apr 27, 1928 — Oct 13, 2026
Rosalie A. Martell, 98, of Hyde Park, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. As always, her beloved daughter, Darlene, and son-in-law, Robert, were by her side.
Affectionately known as "Rosie" or "Ro" to the many who loved her, Rosalie was born on April 27, 1928, in Malden, New York, to Guido and Perina Calenti. She was the second daughter in a close-knit Italian family. The family later settled in Poughkeepsie, where Rosalie enjoyed a happy childhood and formed lifelong friendships in the city's Little Italy neighborhood. She was a devoted member of Mount Carmel Church, where her deep faith took root and remained a guiding presence throughout her life.
Following her graduation from Poughkeepsie High School, Rosalie worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance before dedicating herself to raising her family. Known for her easygoing nature and adventurous spirit, she embraced life with enthusiasm and optimism. In 1963, she began a distinguished 28-year career with The Grand Union Company, where she was respected for her dedication and strong work ethic.
On February 14, 1981, Rosalie married the love of her life, Pasquale "Pat" Martell. Together they shared many happy years, enjoying travel and creating cherished memories, especially during their visits to Hawaii. The couple later made their home in Naples, Florida, before eventually returning to the Hudson Valley.
Rosalie touched countless lives with her joyful spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering positivity. She inspired everyone who knew her, not only through her remarkable longevity and youthful glow, but through her grace, resilience, and profound appreciation for life's blessings.
A truly happy soul from the very beginning, Rosalie left behind a legacy of kindness, gratitude, and good humor. Her father, Guido, often affectionately remarked, "She laugh all the time." Those who knew her will forever remember her radiant smile, hearty laugh, and beautiful heart.
Rosalie was predeceased by her husband, Pasquale "Pat" Martell; her son, Mark Paganelli; her daughter, Dawn Licis; and her siblings, Achilles Calenti, Carmine Calenti, and Felicia Falconi.
She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Robert O'Neil; her grandchildren, Markie Ann Pottenburgh, Michael J. Licis, Ashley Licis, Cody Valley, Shannon O'Neil, and Daniel O'Neil; eight great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hudson Valley Hospice and the many caregivers who provided compassionate care and support, especially Kim Powers and Sherry Gilroy, whose kindness meant so much to Rosalie and her family.
