Robert F.
Whitney
May 1, 1952 — May 28, 2026
Robert Francis Whitney, known to family and friends as Bob, passed away on May 28, 2026, in Poughkeepsie, New York, after a brief illness.
Bob was born on May 1, 1952, in Kingston, New York, and he spent his life guided by the values of kindness, faith, and service. He was a loving, friendly, and intelligent man whose warmth touched everyone who knew him. Throughout his life, he carried himself with quiet dignity and a generous spirit, and he left a lasting impression on his family, his friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Bob studied Mathematics at Marist College and graduated in 1974. His education reflected both his natural intelligence and his steady dedication to learning. He went on to build a meaningful career as an educator, a role that suited him well. He believed in the value of knowledge, patience, and encouragement, and he shared those gifts with countless students over the years. As a teacher and mentor, he inspired others not only to think carefully and work hard, but also to believe in themselves.
In addition to his work in education, Bob was a man of faith who lived as a Christian with sincerity and humility. His beliefs shaped the way he treated others, and his life reflected compassion, respect, and integrity. He was known for his calm presence and his ability to make others feel comfortable and valued. Whether in the classroom, at home, or among friends, he brought a sense of steadiness and grace that people came to rely on.
Bob also found joy in photography, an interest that allowed him to appreciate the beauty in everyday life. Through his lens, he saw moments worth preserving, and his appreciation for detail and perspective was evident in all that he did. Photography gave him another way to express his thoughtful nature and his eye for the meaningful and the lasting.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Whitney, and by his children, Melissa Whitney, Gregory Whitney, and Christopher Whitney. He cherished his family deeply and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. His love for them was constant and unwavering, and his role as husband and father was one of the greatest blessings of his life. The memories he created with them will remain a source of comfort and strength in the years ahead.
Bob will be remembered for the love he gave so freely, the friendship he offered so generously, and the intelligence with which he approached life. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, a respected educator, and a faithful Christian. His presence brought reassurance, his words carried wisdom, and his example set a standard of kindness that will not be forgotten.
He passed away in Poughkeepsie, New York, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, learning, and love. Though he is no longer physically present, his influence endures in the lives of those he taught, loved, and encouraged. Those who knew Bob will remember his gentle spirit, his steady heart, and the many ways he made the world around him better.
