Obituary

Robert J. Schamberg, 78, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully on April 14, 2022, at home with his family by his side. Born August 8, 1943, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Bernard G. and Marjorie E. Cooke Schamberg. Bob was a member of the first graduating class at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1962 and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966 as a K9 dog handler. He was stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany where he met the love of his life, Kirsten Holm Olsen. They were married on December 28, 1965 in Faaborg, Denmark. Mrs. Schamberg survives at home. He worked for IBM for over thirty years until his retirement in 2005. Bob, a man with an enormous heart, was the sort of guy who woke up happy, was kind and thoughtful and always willing to help a friend. Gregarious to a fault, he was always quick with a joke and a smile and made a friend wherever he went. He was the epitome of a family man. He had a strong faith and enjoyed attending mass. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Tracy Schamberg, Robin Peek and husband, Chaz, Søren A. Schamberg and wife, Jessica, and Claes P. Schamberg and partner, Zoaya Fatima; and seven grandchildren, Kyla, Halle, Mya, and Olivia Peek, Haylie Tanczos, and Leah and Daniel Schamberg. He is also survived by his two brothers, William B. Schamberg, and wife, Peggy, of Schroon Lake, and Richard J. Schamberg, and wife, Larraine, of Ormond Beach, FL; stepbrother, Raymond Polotaye, of Rhinebeck; sisters-in-law, Sandee Polotaye, of Pleasant Valley, and Astrid Holm Olsen and Lise Holm Olsen and husband, Ebbe Durck, all of Denmark; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Lennart Rasmussen, stepbrother, Robert Polotaye and step sister-in-law, Judy Polotaye. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place, memorial calling hours will be from 4 to 7 PM, May 6th, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, May 7th, at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. United States Air Force Honors will follow. The Schamberg family would love to thank all those individuals -friends and caregivers-who made Bob's last year easier by providing physical, emotional and spiritual comfort through a debilitating illness.
