Robert Edward Planke, Jr., 78, a lifelong area resident, died on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.

Born November 16, 1944, in Port Chester, NY, he was the son of Robert E. Planke, Sr. and Dorothy Fitzpatrick Planke.

A Customer Engineer for IBM for 39 years, Bob worked in both the Poughkeepsie and Fishkill locations.

Bob was a member and former Director of the Winchester Arms Collectors Association, and a member of the Neighbor's Gun Club in Rhinebeck.

Bob was often accused of being born 100 years too late and he would agree. It wasn't unusual for a tourist to ask to take their picture with him, a real cowboy. He enjoyed the outdoors and the many adventures he experienced while hunting and fishing.

He loved his children and granddaughter more than anything. He always put them first in every decision he made. He had a story for everything, some told by the people who were with him. Bob was, and will remain, the rock that keeps things together for his family. Right up until his last days, he was more concerned with his children than he was about himself. Forever our hero.

Bob leaves behind his beloved daughter, Sandra (Planke) Schuhknecht, and husband, Frank Porcelli, of Hyde Park; son, Jason Planke, of Seattle, WA; granddaughter, Sarah Schuhknecht, of Hyde Park; brother, Russell Planke and wife, Debbie, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Planke; and sisters, Diane DeSoto and Dorothy Fell.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, Bob's family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Winchester Arms Collectors Association, PO Box 1070, Lakeville, MA 02347. (www.winchestercollector.org)

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. To send an online condolence, please visit Bob's obituary page at www.sweetsfuneralhome.com.
