Robert Willard "Will"
Coons
Jan 8, 1981 — Jul 18, 2026
Robert Willard "Will" Coons passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on January 8, 1981, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, New York, he was the son of Kathleen Ann Evans and the late Robert Wayne Coons.
Known to family and friends simply as "Will," he was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose greatest joy in life was his daughter, Azriella VanSteenburgh. He was incredibly proud of her and could always be found on the sidelines of her football and basketball games, cheering her on, encouraging her, and supporting her dreams. Being her father was the role he cherished most.
Will worked as a contractor, taking great pride in his craftsmanship and in the work of his hands. Away from work, he loved spending time outdoors. He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed hunting and camping, finding peace in nature and creating lasting memories with family and friends.
In addition to his daughter, Azriella, he is survived by his mother, Kathleen Ann Evans; his stepfather, Raymond Shaffer, Sr.; his sisters, Melissa Iannucci, Rachael Shaffer, Kassie Shaffer, Candace Trejo, Shayna Coons, and Crystal Fillman; his brothers, Raymond Shaffer, Jr. and Christopher Miller; as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Robert Wayne Coons; his sister, Wendy MacIsaac; and his brother, Joseph Shaffer.
