Obituary

Rita Ann Cioffi (née Hyland), 89, died peacefully, surrounded by family on April 17, 2023.

Rita was born on January 25, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Martin and Delia Hyland. She graduated from Stella Maris high school in Rockaway. She was employed as a business representative for the New York Telephone Company and then worked as secretary to the dean while attending classes at St. John's University. She met her husband in Manhattan while marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade. She married Salvatore at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Brooklyn in 1957. They spent two years in Manhattan, KS where Salvatore proudly served in the US Army and their first child was born. They moved back to Brooklyn, and eventually settled in Hyde Park to raise a family of five. Rita was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with and preparing meals for her family & friends. While raising her family, she volunteered at several school and church functions. She furthered her education by attending classes at local colleges. She enjoyed watching old movie classics and learning about the lives of the actors. She was proud of her Irish heritage and music, which she shared with her family. She was a talented woman who enjoyed

arts and literature, crafts, drawing, painting, and poetry.

She was a communicant of Regina Coeli Church. Praying the holy rosary and her devotion to the miraculous medal provided her strength throughout her life.

Rita is survived by Salvatore, her husband of 65 years, her children Marie & Steve Mangiarelli of Lake Katrine, NY, Salvatore & Susan Cioffi of Woodbourne, NY, Lorraine & Michael Adams of Poughkeepsie, NY, Maureen & Andrew Ho of Naples, FL and Jeanmarie Myslinski of Plantation, FL.

She will also be remembered by her adoring grandchildren Dan Mangiarelli, Laura Mangiarelli, Sarah & Joe Bertola, Rachel Cioffi, and Ryan Myslinski. She was happily awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandson in September. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Eugene Hyland of California.

She will be remembered for her love, kindness, support, great sense of humor, and sparkling Irish

eyes. Rita will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Thank you to all the special caregivers during the recent years who helped her to live comfortably in her own home.
