Richard R.
Soden
Aug 24, 1965 — Sep 2, 2023
Rhinebeck, NY
Richard R. Soden, 58, of Rhinebeck, died Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Westchester, Medical Center, Valhalla. Born August 24, 1965, in Port Jefferson Station, Long Island. He was the son of Randolph H. and Barbara Ann (Komiak) Soden. His parents survive in Rhinebeck.
Rich was a graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park, and attended Dutchess Community College.
While in school, Rich worked in the kitchen at The Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck, working on their popular brunch is where his lifelong love for cooking began. Rich was a man who unconditionally loved his family and friends, and they in turn loved and respected him. He was strong, energetic, and had a lust for life, and took advantage of everything it offered.
Rich joined the family business, Hudson Valley Telephone, and eventually took it over from his father in the early 2000s. He was still currently working.
In addition to cooking, Rich enjoyed golfing, both indoor and outdoor, woodworking, gardening, raising ducks, and playing cards, especially poker with his buddies. Richard had many hobbies and participated in and enjoyed viewing numerous sports. When he was younger, he was active in scouting, church, and liked to fish, ski, and go biking. Rich coached youth soccer for the Rhinebeck girls' and boys' soccer program. At a time, he was even president of the Rhinebeck Soccer League.
He was a member of several local chambers of commerce.
Richard was a former member of Saint James' Episcopal Church in Hyde Park, a church he grew up in. Richard enjoyed life and spending time with family and friends: he was especially close with his brother, Robert.
On June 1, 1991, in St. James' Episcopal Church, he married the former Colleen R. Navarra. His wife survives at home.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his three children, Nicholas Soden of Hyde Park, and Justin and Kayleah Soden, both of Rhinebeck, brother, Robert Soden, of Hyde Park, and several nieces and nephews. He's also survived by several cousins.
Rich was pre-deceased by his brother, Bryan Soden, in 2021 and his Godson, Dylan Feller, in 2015.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. In celebration of his life, a memorial church service will be held Monday, December 18, at 10 AM at St. James' Episcopal Church in Hyde Park with interment following.
In lieu of flowers, the Soden family respectfully request memorial donations to his godson's fund: Through Dylan's Eyes, The Dylan Feller Memorial fund, at https://bit.ly/3M8o4yC.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Hyde Park.
