Obituary

Reta Mae Snow (92) passed away on July 28, 2022, in Poughkeepsie, NY at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center after a brief illness. Born on October 15, 1929, in Rutland, Vermont to Fredrick Gullakson and Laura Rooker both deceased. She was a 52-year resident of Hyde Park, NY. She is a high school graduate and was employed as an attendant at Hudson River Psychiatric Center for 26 years. She served in many capacities during her employment including Managing the Community Store and Purchasing Agent for patients in Ross Pavilion. She was a member of Zonta. Reta had a passion for many things. She loved painting and befriended John and Paul Gould local Hudson River School Artists studying at their gallery in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Her home was filled with paintings by local artists as well as her own. She was always up for a trip anywhere in the US with her friends Linda & John Hacksteiner. & Carol Corrado. Give her a set of car keys and she was ready to go. We all thought her life might be easier if she just lived in her car. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining and could always find any excuse for a party. Having fun and making others laugh also brought her great joy. Reta had taught her friend Jill Van Buren to tap dance when she was a child and during Jill's recent visit asked her to tap dance. Never one to neglect herself she enjoyed over 20 years of massage from her beloved friend Jose Perez Colon. She also held a special place in her heart for her longtime family friend Page Marx who stood by her side during her recent journey. She was a loyal and caring friend to everyone she knew. We were grateful and blessed to experience her love and love her back. She married Dr. Herman B. Snow, on December 12, 1982, who predeceased her. Theirs was a warm and loving relationship. They enjoyed spending time together with family and friends. She enjoyed "spoiling" her newly "adopted" granddaughters, but especially enjoyed "spoiling" Herman. Although Reta herself did not have children, she was predeceased by Herman's son David, and is survived by his son, Robert, as well as Herman's grandchildren, Sara Jean, Rachael, Stephanie, Stacy and Allison and great grandchildren Cameron and Gavin Clarke and Mira and Leah Stebe. She was also much loved by Herman's daughter-in-law, Valerie "Penny" Snow. Nine siblings also predeceased her. Calling hours are on Wednesday August 3rd from 4pm to 7pm. A service will begin at 11am on Thursday August 4th at Sweet's Funeral Home with entombment to follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Community Mausoleum. Donations can be made to the Hudson River Psychiatric Center Nurses Alumni Association in lieu of flowers.
