Ralph
Shedden, Jr.
Feb 25, 1947 — Feb 10, 2023
Ralph Law Shedden Jr., 75, of Pleasant Valley, NY, died on Friday, February 10, 2023, at The Grand
Rehab Center in Pawling.
Born, February 25, 1947 in New Rochelle, he was the son of the late Ralph Law Shedden Sr. and Ethel
Brown Shedden.
Ralph was a standout athlete at New Rochelle high school, where he starred on the football field,
becoming an all-county athlete.
Ralph's children's favorite story of their dad is of his senior year during the annual Thanksgiving Day
football game in which Ralph caught the winning touchdown. Ralph had been hospitalized with Mono and
was actually in the hospital the day of the game. He insisted on leaving the hospital and playing in the
game. He caught the winning touchdown and went back into the hospital. His children wanted to tell this
story because this symbolizes who their dad was to them… a person who always came through for them
when they needed him the most.
After completing his bachelor's degree at Central Connecticut State University, where he majored in
Athletic Training, he went to work as an athletic trainer for Columbia University.
As he started to grow his family, he began working for 7Up as a delivery driver covering the South Bronx,
NY and later for Pepsi as a forklift operator in their Warehouse in Mt. Vernon, NY where he was well
known as a hard worker for many years until his retirement.
Ralph loved anything that had to do with sports and enjoyed watching his beloved Mets and New York
Giants on T.V. His yearbook quote was, "Sports are the pleasure of men." He also enjoyed collecting coins, spending time with his family and living a simple life.
He is survived by his two children, James and Keri, a grandson Dani, two sisters Nancy and Judy, two brothers, Dick and Doug, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
Calling hours will be from 12 Noon to 3 PM, on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Sweet's Funeral Home,
