Philip Richard
Martin Jr.
Dec 27, 1943 — Apr 26, 2026
Philip Richard Martin Jr., age 82, of Hyde Park, New York, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at home with his family by his side.
Born on December 27, 1943, in Peekskill, New York, he was the son of the late Philip Richard Martin, Sr. and Regina (VanDerwerker) Martin.
After graduating high school, Philip went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, where he was stationed in Germany as an intelligence specialist with the Third Cavalry Regiment Armor.
Upon returning home, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth A. Behrens. They were married on June 8, 1968, in Mt. Kisco at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Mrs. Martin survives at home.
Philip went on to work for IBM in Poughkeepsie in 1967. At the time of his retirement in 1993, he had advanced to the position of Systems Analyst. In 1995 he went to work for Hyde Park Motors, and was there until 2007. His next job was his best job…taking care of his grandchildren and held the honorable title of Poppy!!!
My husband, our Dad, our Poppy, left behind a legacy of love. He cherished time spent with his family. He loved sharing and incorporated teachable moments into almost everything without you even knowing it. He was goofy and silly and could make you laugh with a classic one liner. He was always there and knew exactly what to do. You could find him by looking for a trail of Cheerios, or his all time favorite chocolate chip cookies. He loved being outside, especially washing cars. This was his happy place. He was the center of our whole world. He loved his family dearly. Until we meet again, he is now at peace and in the arms of Jesus.
In addition to his wife, Philip is survived by his children, Jennifer Ruedebusch and Patricia Ackley and her husband, Norman; his beloved grandchildren, Joshua Ackley, Colby Ackley, Katelyn Ackley, Faith Ruedebusch, and Ryan Ruedebusch. All of whom he was most proud of.
