Patti A.
Stofa
Mar 20, 1951 — Dec 13, 2025
Patti A. Stofa, 74, of Mayfield, NY, (formerly of Hyde Park, NY). Mom passed away peacefully at her family's home surrounded by her loved ones in the early morning hours of December 13, 2025. Patti was a 2004 breast cancer survivor and unfortunately, Mom's cancer returned.
Born in Bridgeport, CT on March 20, 1951, to Barbara Aiken and the late James F. Aiken. Patti spent her younger years in South Glens Falls and then her family moved to Hyde Park, NY. As a 1969 graduate from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, she was also one of the first classes to graduate from Dutchess Boces CTI Nursing Program.
Patti worked at Northern Duchess Hospital and later was the school nurse at St. Peter's School in Hyde Park, NY until her retirement in 2014. Her fondest memories of working at St. Peter's School was when her grandchildren attended Pre-K there. She quickly became known as "Grandma" to all of the kids there because they heard her grandchildren calling her by that name. She was very protective of her grandchildren and in turn they became protective of her. Her grandchildren always knew that they could go to her for anything and that she loved them unconditionally.
Patti often shared stories of her childhood and how she never let anyone walk all over her. Amongst her siblings she was the toughest of them. She spoke the truth and they all knew they could turn to her for advice.
Patti dedicated her life to creating a warm, nurturing and welcoming home for all who entered it. She strongly believed in helping others and paying it forward. One of her most heartwarming gestures during the holidays was cooking and preparing extra food for first responders, such
as her son in law Daniel and his coworkers. This was her way of recognizing the sacrifices they make by working away from their families during the holidays. After her retirement she moved to Mayfield, NY and continued to help others. She often went shopping to purchase winter coats, gloves and hats for the local kids that were less fortunate. She was also known for being an amazing cook and would make soup for neighbors and others when they were ill.
Patti was a loving mom to her two daughters and spent much time helping out at their school functions and sporting events. She was the biggest fan of her girl's and she always advocated for them whether it was for school, sports or other life events. She continued to encourage her daughters to try new things and always do their best. Eventually Patti would go back to college to finish her Nursing Degree as her daughters became older. She felt that it was important for her daughters to understand how valuable it is to finish what you started to achieve your goals in life.
On April 25, 1970 she married Peter Stofa in Hyde Park, NY. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Jessica Stofa of Hyde Park, NY; Randi and Daniel Speedling of Staatsburg, NY; 6 grandchildren who were the loves of her life: Peyton Speedling, Chase Landon & Ava Brandl; Carter & Jamison Speedling; her mom, Barbara Aiken of Hyde Park, NY; sisters: Janice (Jack) Meharg of Martinsburg, WV; Mary Lou Griffin (wife of the late Stuart) of Hyde Park, NY; James "Jimmy" Aiken of Williston, Florida; Kathy Aiken of Ballston Spa, NY, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Patti will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd from 4:00 - 7:00pm Locally in Hyde Park, please RSVP to Daniel Speedling at hppd25@gmail.com.
