Patricia "Tally" Lorio, 86, of Hyde Park, died on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY.
Born on November 20,1934 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Agatha Slusarz Danowski.
On May 27, 1961, in Amsterdam, she married Thomas Lorio, of New Orleans, LA. Thomas predeceased her on January 13, 2021.
Patricia, nicknamed "Tally" as a child by her sister, was an avid baseball fan, from her days attending home games of the Amsterdam Rugmakers, her town's Canadian-American baseball team, with her father and her lifelong friend, Dolores Pereicich, to more recent years when she closely followed the ups and downs of her beloved NY Mets. Besides baseball, Tally was interested in supporting loved ones and others in nursing homes, earning a certificate in Gerontology and an Associate's Degree from Dutchess Community College, and furthering her education at SUNY New Paltz and Marist College. She enjoyed keeping up with current events and loved music, especially Neil Diamond and Andrea Bocelli. She visited many nursing homes, bringing seasonal decorations and CDs of festive music.
Proudly Polish and devoutly Catholic, Tally often attended mass with her husband, Tom. Socially, they could be found most mornings and often later in the day, enjoying a meal or gathering with friends they met and grew close to at the Eveready Diner in Hyde Park. Tally met several of their "diner friends" when she would be overheard discussing relief pitching or other intricacies of the game, and another patron would stop by her table to ask how a woman of her generation knew so much about the sport.
Tally is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Traci Lorio, of Cortlandt Manor; her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne Lorio and Andrew Dykeman, of New York City; grandson Tommy Lorio, of Cortlandt Manor; several nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Along with her husband and parents she was also predeceased by her sister, Barbara Archinal, of Amsterdam.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
A memorial mass will take place at a later date in the spring.
Tally's family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Hudson Valley Hospice, or Catholic Charities.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
