Obituary

Hyde Park Pamela Jean Sperry Bendyk, age 64, passed away peacefully in Hyde Park, NY on February 25, 2022. Mrs. Bendyk was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on September 4, 1957, the daughter of Page Walter Sperry Jr. and Gwenyth Jean Planck. Pam grew up in Hyde Park and met her future husband, Mark Bendyk in kindergarten. Following college, Mark and Pam settled in Hyde Park to live and raise their family. They were blessed with a son, Josh, and a daughter, Caroline. Mrs. Bendyk was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Pam was an exceptionally loving wife, always offering words of encouragement and support. With Mark, Pam raised their children with everlasting love, forever willing to lend an ear and caring for them with kindness and understanding. She was overjoyed when she became a grandmother this past year and spent every possible opportunity showering her new granddaughter Maeve with affection and books. Pam was a lifelong dog lover and little time passed without a four legged family member running around in their home. She enjoyed and excelled at cooking, baking, and entertaining, often hosting large gatherings of family and friends alongside her husband in their Hyde Park and Loon Lake homes. Mark and Pam also enjoyed traveling together, giving them the opportunity to discover and explore other cultures and make fond memories. As an avid reader, Pam was delighted to be a member of a book club with many of her friends and past colleagues. She was always eager to learn and quick to laugh. She also belonged to the Hyde Park United Methodist Church and the Mahwenawasigh Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Pam graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a bachelor's in elementary education, and later earned her MS in education from SUNY New Paltz. Professionally, she made the perfect career choice as an extraordinarily dedicated teacher. She began her teaching career in Virginia but spent the majority of her career at Hyde Park Elementary School and Haviland Middle School in the Hyde Park Central School District. She was equally admired and respected by her colleagues, parents and students. To be admired by fifth and sixth graders is no easy feat but Pam was exceptional. She relished teaching mathematics and conveyed a true love of literature. Her demeanor was firm yet fair with a great dose of humor and contagious laughter. Any student fortunate enough to be in her class became a better learner and a better person because of who she was as a devoted teacher and strong role-model. As an educator, Pam will always be fondly remembered. She is survived by her beloved husband of thirty-eight years, Mark P. Bendyk, who she married on May 21, 1983 and by her son and daughter-in-law, Josh Bendyk and Taylor Dennerlein, her granddaughter Maeve Bendyk, and her daughter Caroline Bendyk. She is also survived by her mother Gwen Sperry, her mother-in-law Olga Bendyk, her siblings Beth Hagy (Gary), Wesley Sperry (Dawn), and LouAnne Scherb (Brian), aunts and uncles, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her father Page W. Sperry Jr. and her father-in-law Walter Bendyk. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, March 6, 2022, from 1pm to 4pm at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Memorial services will begin at 11am on Monday, March 7, 2022, at United Methodist Church of Hyde Park, 1 Church Street, Hyde Park, NY 12538. Cremation already took place.
