Obituary for Johnie T. "Jenner" Howard

Johnie Thomas Howard know by many family and friends as “Jenner” passed away July, 23, 2018 in Kingston, New York at the age of 59. On April 13, 1995, he married Florence Rauch in Kingston. Mrs. Howard survives him at home. He is preceded in death by his mother Carolyn Johnson and father Johnie Thomas Howard Sr.
In addition to his wife, Johnie is survived by his beloved daughter Shateya, her husband Jason Folks, and his loving grandsons- Matthias and Tristan who reside in Columbia, MD. He is also survived by his loving stepdaughter, Rosanna Rauch, stepson Maceo Jones (both of Ulster County), his sister Cynthia Thomas and brother Carl Ross Jr. Additionally, Johnie is survived by his nieces and nephews; Essence Ross Cherry, Kiashaun Ross, Ebony Wright, Chamere Ross, Dejiore Ross, Jesikka Ross, Tamkqua Ross, Majestic Ross, Carl Ross III, and London Ross along with many great-nieces, great-nephews and other loving family members and close friends.
Johnie Thomas Howard was born on March 11, 1959 in Newburgh, New York. He attended and graduated from Poughkeepsie Highschool. Over the course of his lifetime, he has worked in communities all around the Dutchess and Ulster County areas in the field of Social Work. He has touched on many lives in varied age groups as a Youth Counselor, House Manager, and Child Case Worker. In addition to his work in Social Work, Johnie was also an accomplished and devoted Black Belt Martial Arts instructor for BSR (Philippines Karate) in Poughkeepsie and spent many years working with children and adults on achieving success in the skills and discipline of Martial Arts.
In his spare time, Johnie valued spending time with his wife and family, fishing, and fixing things. If he could find an example of how to get something done, Johnie could DO IT! He encouraged others to challenge themselves and try new things as well.
No matter if you knew Johnie for one day or many, many years, you knew he was a helpful, respectful, kind, and supportive man who valued the importance of family. Throughout his life he touched on many lives and had a lasting impression. If he was able, he would help no matter what.
A funeral is scheduled for Monday, July 30, 2018 at Sweet’s Funeral Home from 10am-12pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Johnie’s life.
