Obituary for Donald R. Dise Jr.

Hyde Park – Donald R. Dise Jr., 86, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

Born in Little Falls, NY on September 29, 1931, he was the son the late Donald R. Dise Sr. and Emma Daniels Dise.

Mr. Dise was an all-star football player in high school, and a soldier in the Korean war, serving in the armored tank division and then in logistics.

A Rhodes Scholar, he graduated Clarkson College with a 3.99 grade point average and was a member of the Clarkson College Theta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, National Engineering Honor Society. He was hired before graduation by IBM, eventually serving as one of their chief mechanical engineers responsible for the division which designed all the HVAC systems for EVERY building, IBM worldwide.

Donald married his first wife, Sarah Vona, and they eventually divorced. He married his second wife, Rosie, and had a great marriage and life. Sadly, both wives pre-deceased him.

He has built four beautiful houses, the last one being a large Lindel Cedar home in Hyde Park.

Mr. Dise loved books, often reading three at a time. He was an artist, using mostly pen and paper or pencil and paper, but he also used paints.

He was a gentle man, and a gentleman, a scholar, a sweet soul who loved his daughter and grandchildren.

While his body deserted him, there is no doubt he is taking his journey to his next life, pain free and happy. His family cries happy and sad tears, knowing he has lived a full and happy life.

Survivors include his daughter, JoAnn Martino, and husband, Robert, of Hyde Park; granddaughter, Sarah Ann Armeno of Raleigh, NC; grandson, Anthony Armeno of Hyde Park; step-granddaughter, Rebecca Smith, and husband, Tom, of Oswego; step-granddaughter, Sarah Sobus, and husband, Brian, of Granby Center, NY; step great-granddaughters, Lily Smith and Brianne Sobus; sister-in-law, Patricia Shortell, and husband, Tom, of Long Island; sister-in-law, Bea McGinnis, and husband, Roy, of Texas; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his beloved dogs, Tucker and Mia, and two cats, Jail Bait and Samwise.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be from 5 to 8 Pm, Friday, July 27th at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A celebration of his life and military honors will take place during the visitation.

His ashes will be buried at the convenience of the family with his wife, Rosie, in Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY.

The Dise family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538 (www.dcspca.org) or Bleu’s K9 Rescue, 910 Tower Ave., Maybrook, NY 12543 (www.adoptapet.com/bleus-canine-rescue-inc).
