Obituary for Gordon H. MacKenzie

Gordon H. MacKenzie, 92, of Poughkeepsie, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at The Pines in Poughkeepsie Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

Born August 12, 1925 in Hulett, Wyoming, he was the son of the late Robert and Hazel Hurlbut MacKenzie.

Gordon earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Chicago.

He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. MacKenzie’s career included: public accounting for Arthur Andersen in New York City; ITT Arctic Services (including Fairbanks Alaska on the pipeline); and a time as Town of Poughkeepsie Comptroller. He also served on Town of Poughkeepsie Town Council from 1990 to1991.

He was a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the National Association of Tax Professionals.

On October 9, 1951 in Somerset, MA, he married the former Virginia Crossley. Mrs. MacKenzie survives at home.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his three children, Sharan Alessandra and husband, David, of Amherst, NY, Bruce MacKenzie and wife, Helen, of San Jose, CA, and Chris MacKenzie and wife, Alison, of Poway, CA; three grandchildren, Amanda and Jake Alessandra, and Ashley MacKenzie; one great-grandchild, Lavinia; nephew, Russell Vines and wife, Elzy, of White Plains; niece, Sandra of Everett WA; and niece, Susan Dar and husband, Don, of Spokane, WA.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Grainger MacKenzie; sister, Marian MacKenzie; and grandson, Vincent Alessandra.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Hyde Park.

His ashes will be inurned in the St. James’ Columbarium and Meditation Garden.
