Obituary for John A. Arentsen

John Arthur Arentsen, 77 a life-long resident of Hyde Park, NY, passed away on Thursday March 29, 2018 at TenBroeck Commons in Lake Katrine, NY.

Born on January 30, 1941 in Manhattan, NY he was adopted by his late parents, Arthur A. Arentsen of Brooklyn, NY and Mary Kerrigan Arentsen of Galway, Ireland. John attended Hyde Park schools and graduated from FD Roosevelt High School in 1958

John's career spanned over 45 years to include: Western Printing Company, Herrmann's Automotive Clinic and Hyde Park Central School District, until his retirement in 2006.

He had a zest for life and a great sense of humor! Over the years, John and Barbara enjoyed touring on their Honda Goldwing, snowmobiling, traveling to Ireland, Germany and taking several cruises. He loved to work with his hands and was a Master Auto Mechanic, enjoyed working on cars, tinkering in his garage, mowing lawns, fishing and, had a great love of building model trains. John took great joy in watching his grandchildren participate in sports and rarely missed an event. He had many close friends, especially his neighbors on Larch Drive.

He was a member of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park.

On May 6, 1960, John married Barbara Elizabeth Lynch, who predeceased him on May 3, 2017. John is survived by two daughters, Karen Simpson of Franklin, TN, and Linda Stoddard (Duane), of Red Hook, NY; six grandchildren, Jamie Lambuth )(John), of Chicago, IL., Greg Simpson (Becky) of Nashville, TN., Scott Simpson of Franklin, TN, Shawn Pierce of Albany, Ryan Pierce of Fort Bragg, NC, Scott Stoddard of Red Hook; and three great-grandchildren, Noelle, Ben and Peter Lambuth.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Judi Arentsen of Poughkeepsie, NY., her children, and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Arentsen.

Karen and Linda would like to thank the wonderful home health care aides who took care of John with compassion and patience, as well as the caring staff at TenBroeck Commons. The care they provided while he lived with Alzheimer's was a comfort to us and very much appreciated.

Calling hours will be from 4-7pm, Wednesday, April 4th, at Sweets Funeral Home Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Funeral services with family and friends, will be conducted by Pastor, Eric Titus, at Sweets Funeral Home, on Thursday, April 5th at 10am.

Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
