Obituary for George J. Tortarella

Poughkeepsie – George J. Tortarella, 71, a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, March 15, 2018 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at River Valley in Poughkeepsie.

Born on April 12, 1946 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late George J. and Dorothea Ingraham Tortarella. He proudly served in the U.S. Airforce during Vietnam.

Mr. Tortarella worked for New York State as a Bridge Engineer.

George was a communicant of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park.

An avid golfer, George loved the game of golf, and he was a member of the Nite-Cap and Dutchess County Restaurant Golf Leagues.

He was married on November 4, 1968 in Buffalo to the former Susan Weis. Mrs. Tortarella survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, George Tortarella and wife, Michelle, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Troy Tortarella and wife, Alicia, of Highland; five grandchildren, Vanessa, Shayla, Anthony, Mia, and Joseph; sister, Patricia Kimbale of Poughkeepsie; brother, Thomas Tortarella and companion, Joanne, of Poughkeepsie; and sister, Cecelia Nowak and husband, Alfred, of Poughkeepsie; Paul Tortarella; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, March 20th at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Entombment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
