Please note: HYDE PARK – Due to Patty’s Passing (Harry’s wife), Harry’s Funeral Mass today (Friday, Feb. 9th) has been CANCELED.

Calling hours for Patty will be Sunday, Feb. 11th from 4 to 8
Pm at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

There will be a joint Funeral Mass for both Harry and Patty at 10am, Monday, Feb. 12th at Regina Coeli Church,Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

They will be buried together in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.

Hyde Park – Harry Peter Elmendorf, 82, a lifelong area resident, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at home.
Born in Poughkeepsie on January 31, 1936, he was the son of the late Harry and Madilyn Schultz Elmendorf. He attended Poughkeepsie High School.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the John Livingstone American Legion Post #1466 and the Vail-Wolff McKenna Frye VFW Post #170.
A member of Painters Local #155, Harry worked for many contractors until his retirement in 2001.
He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Hyde Park.
An avid outdoorsman, Harry loved to hunt and fish, and was a member of the Crum Elbow Sportsmen’s Association and the Stone Church Fishing Club, both in Hyde Park.
Harry also belonged to the Poughkeepsie Elks BPOE #275.
He loved sports, especially golf and baseball, and was a devoted fan (and season ticket holder) of the Marist College Lady Red Foxes basketball team.
On June 30, 1956, he married the former Kathryn Patricia Aldrich. His wife, Patty, survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cheryl A. Swenson and husband, Mark, of Hyde Park; daughter, Caren M. DuPrey and husband, Alan, of Hyde Park; son, Craig S. Elmendorf of Stoneridge; three grandchildren, Mark R. Swenson Jr. and wife, Devon Luty Swenson of Poughkeepsie, Jennifer L. Swenson of Poughkeepsie, and Justin A. DuPrey of Hyde Park; and two great-grandchildren, Theodore and Elliott.
He is also survived by his goddaughter, Doreen Baglieri of Highland; four sisters, Carol Kreth and husband, Ernie, of San Antonio, TX, Barbara Piombino of Poughkeepsie, Marilyn Nevins and husband, Daniel, of Beacon, and Eileen Shaw and husband, Robert, of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
Last, but certainly not least, he leaves behind his beloved dogs, Peaches & Peanut, who were his world.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Joseph Elmendorf in 2000; and sister-in-law, Sharyn Elmendorf, in 2005.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 pm, Thursday, February 8th at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Patrick Curley at 10 am, Friday, February 9th at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
