Margaret J. Fitch, 97, a longtime Poughkeepsie resident, died on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center.
The daughter of the late William H. and Gertrude Silver Gray, she was born June 11, 1920 in Lakewood, NJ and moved to Poughkeepsie as a child. She was a 1938 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and attended the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing.
She was Secretary and Treasurer for the family business, the former Poughkeepsie Plate Glass Co. Inc.
A creative and artistic person, she enjoyed drawing, sketching, painting, and needlework. Her artwork won her many ribbons over the years at the Dutchess County Fair.
On December 7, 1941 in Poughkeepsie, she married Charles W. Fitch. Mr. Fitch predeceased her in 2005.
Survivors include her three children, Susan J. Farrand and husband, Richard, Joan Lillis, and John Fitch and wife, Janice; four grandchildren, Suzanne Farrand, Peter Farrand and wife, Ana, Jennifer Jamaitis and husband, Jon, and Jessica Pecchia and husband, Brian; five great-grandchildren, Lauren Farrand, Julia and Joseph Jamaitis, and Emilia and Lucca Pecchia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Sylvia Accardi; and brother, William Gray.
There are no calling hours. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
