Obituary for Mary Ann Weatherby

Mary Ann Weatherby, 92, departed this life on October 23, 2017 at the Baptist Home, with her loving family beside her. Born on the family farm in the Town of Clinton on January 8, 1925, she was the daughter of George and Hattie Hauver Ward. On June 1, 1947, at the Arlington Reformed Church in Poughkeepsie, she married Thomas R. Weatherby. He predeceased her on December 26, 1990. Mrs. Weatherby was employed in the Food Service Department at Vassar College for many years. Activities she greatly enjoyed during her lifetime included bowling, fishing, camping, AARP trips, card playing, family dinners and rooting for the N.Y. Mets. A member of Fallkill Grange for 78 years, she also belonged to the Pamona, State and National Granges. She was a long-time volunteer in the Grange Building at the Dutchess County Fair. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her sisters, Mildred Churchill Smith, Ruth J. Ellis, infant sister, Melvina Ward and a niece, Beatrice Teater. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Johnson; granddaughter, Laura Shook; great-grandchildren, John and Chloe Brewer and Lawrence W. Shook, of Poughkeepsie, and her nieces, Barbara Schaefer of Hyde Park and Joan Traver of Pleasant Valley. Private interment has taken place at Crum Elbow Cemetery, Hyde Park. A Celebration of Mary Ann's Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 11, at the Pleasant Plains Presbyterian Church, 2 Fiddler's Bridge Road, Staatsburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Crum Elbow Rural Cemetery Meeting House Preservation (CERCMHP) Fund, c/o Denise Byrnes, 144 Ruskey Lane, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
