Michael Vincent
Conforti
Jan 12, 1933 — Jan 26, 2023
Michael Vincent Marius Conforti, 90, a lifelong area resident, died on January 26, 2023, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.
Born January 12, 1933, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Michael and Carmela Tirelli Conforti.
A graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School, he was the proud owner of his family restaurant, The Rainbow Room, in Hyde Park, where he worked 18 hours a day for over 50 years. People came to see Mike as much as they came for his famous "bring your own pot" spaghetti and meatballs. Known for his sense of humor and great story telling, he would entertain his customers from behind the bar, filling the room with laughter.
Never one to retire, Mike opened Rainbow Oil In 1995 and ran it until the time of his death. Mike loved his company, his staff and enjoyed going to the office everyday. He was dedicated to providing his personal touch and prided himself for always being accessible to his customers and their needs.
Mike was proud to be from Hyde Park and greatly appreciated the beauty of the Hudson Valley. He enjoyed eating at local restaurants, attending civic events and talking about local politics. An avid animal lover, he cherished his beloved cat Bella, who will miss him terribly. Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
His family meant the world to him. On May 24, 1958, in Walden, he married the former Caroline D. Girimonte. Mrs. Conforti predeceased him on February 12, 2003. Mike reveled in watching his daughters grow into the successful women they have become. He was always their staunchest supporter - lending a shoulder, an ear or much needed advice.
Survivors include his three daughters, Michele Conforti of New York City, Kathleen Conforti of Mt. Vernon, and Linda Conforti of LaGrange; two sisters, Carmela Elderkin and husband, Ron, of Florida, and Anna Digilio of Hyde Park; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Gilbert, Frank, and Mario Conforti; and one sister, Sue Conforti Szczypca.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 PM, Friday, February 3rd at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Saturday, February 4th at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Entombment with military honors will follow at the Our Lady of the Holy Souls Mausoleum, St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538. (www.dcspca.org)
