Melody J. McCavara, 76, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at home, in the care and company of her devoted family after a tenacious battle with colon cancer.

Born on October 13, 1947, in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Jane Meisner White. On Sunday, March 18, 1973, she married her Honey, Brian S. McCavara. Brian died on April 9, 2016.

Her dedication to education and her community was evident in her professional life. For many years, Melody served as a cook at St. Peter's School in Poughkeepsie, and at Dutchess County Boces. Her love for children and education led her to further her own and become a One-To-One Aide for Dutchess County Boces. Known for her tough but loving guidance, Melody cherished each of "her kids", leaving a lasting impact on their lives. She was affectionately known as Nannie by her grandkids as well as all their friends and loved each one.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Brian Lasher, Poughkeepsie, NY, son and daughter-in-law, Shaun and Elizabeth McCavara, Staatsburg, NY, sister, Cheryl White & her wife Maureen Price, FL, sister, Roxanne Buckley, TX, brother, Stephen White; Melody was the proud grandmother of Kyle Lasher and fiancée Jaimieleigh Robertson, Brendan Lasher and fiancée Selena Camacho, as well as Collin Lasher and Hannah Lasher, who served as her caregivers throughout her battle with cancer. She was also the doting great-grandmother of Shayne and Lucas Lasher. Melody's family extended beyond blood relations, including her "extras", granddaughter Rebecca Jansen and great-granddaughter Amelia Howard. She was affectionately known as Nannie by her grandkids as well as all their friends because of the love she showed them.

At Melody's request, there are no calling hours. A private funeral service will be held for her family.
