Obituary

Mary Holt,104, of Hyde Park, New York died on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, New York. Mary was born on July 15, 1920 to her parents the late Rocco and Rose Ventura Germano. Together, Rocco and Rose raised 15 children on their farm in Wappingers Falls NY including Mary who was born there.

Mary is survived by her siblings Richie, Raymond, Irene and Bill.

On August 27, 1944, she married Archie Holt, her husband who predeceased her in 1992.

As her sister Dory often recounted, Mary was an integral part of raising the siblings and called her "Honey Marie" as a term of endearment.

Mary attended both Wappingers and Poughkeepsie Schools, and worked for IBM then helping with the war effort during World War II. Mary loved the independence her job provided her, and used her earnings to purchase a car and to help contribute to the Germano household.

It was while working at IBM that she met her husband, Archie Holt, who professed that "Mary was the most beautiful woman he ever met". Archie proposed to Mary, and even though she did not want to leave her job at IBM, he eventually convinced her, and bought a large parcel of land in order to start a family. They became a family of six, adding four children, Floyd, Kathy, Gary, and Don.

Times were difficult in those early years, but Mary and Archie managed to build over 120 homes together, in what became known as the Holt Development. Floyd, Gary, and Don worked alongside their father building homes for their younger life.

After graduating from high school, each of the Holt children pursued their own interests, never forgetting their humble upbringing and hard work ethic, which they owed to their loving parents, Mary and Archie.

Mary also instilled a love of music in her children, and taught them how to play the piano. This love was ultimately passed on to many of Mary's grandchildren, who have fond memories of her teaching them scales and arpeggios at family gatherings.

For numerous decades, Mary lived in the Holt development, spending time visiting family, celebrating holidays, and enjoying the home that Archie had provided for her.

After Archie's passing in 1992, Mary lived in their family home until she was 100 at which time she lived the remainder of her days in a skilled nursing facility. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, at the celebrated age of 104.

She is survived by her three children Floyd (Evelyn) Holt, Kathy Moran, and Gary Holt.

Mary is also survived by her grandchildren Kevin Holt, Christine Moran, Jim Holt, Sean Moran, Darlene Crowley, Cheryl Holt, Melissa Kobelja, and Kimberly Rall. She is survived by her great grandchildren, Ryan Crowley, Katie Crowley, Daphne Holt, Jackson Rall, Carter Rall, Michael Moran, Corie Searching, Ethan Moran, Sebastian Holt, Amber Burnett, Ariana Holt and Mikala Holt.

Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Donald Holt who passed away November 29, 1972 and great-grandchild, Jason Burnett in 2024. She was also predeceased by her siblings Anthony, Charlie, Helen, Bob, John, Ernie, Vinny, Arthur (at an early age) Larry and Dory.
