Obituary

After a long journey with several serious illnesses, Marsha O. Stofa, 75, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2021, at The Baptist Home at Brookmeade, in Rhinebeck, with her husband, Michael, the love of her life, by her side. Born on September 24, 1945, at Northern Dutchess Hospital, she was one month shy of her 76th birthday. The daughter of James E. and Inez Stokes, she grew up in Hyde Park and was a 1963 graduate of F. D. Roosevelt High School. On April 24, 1965, in the former Regina Coeli Chapel on Harvey Street in Hyde Park, she married her high school sweetheart, Michael A. Stofa, who resides at home in Staatsburg. Her love of all things artistic, drew her to attend New Paltz College. She went on to start her own business, Pine Cone Ceramics, while she raised her family. She later went on to share her gifts with her senior friends as a site coordinator for the Dutchess County Office for the Aging. She also served as a President of the Staatsburg Fire Department Auxiliary and attended the Dutch Reformed Church of Hyde Park. In recent years, her favorite title was Nana; she adored her two beautiful granddaughters, Grace Bolander of Poughkeepsie, and Isabella Stofa of Hixson, TN. A woman who colored our world with beauty and love, she lovingly showered her children with many gifts, for which we are so blessed. She treasured the times teaching her granddaughters to paint in her studio; teaching them to color their world. In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her daughter, D. Michel Stofa Bolander of Poughkeepsie; son-in-law, Aaron J. Bolander of Hyde Park; daughter-in- law, Theresa Stofa of Hixson, TN (and Theresa's son, Daniel Boenig); and several nieces and nephews. Marsha was predeceased by her precious son and gentle giant of a man, John Michael Stofa, in 2017; and two sisters, Arlene Willemsen and Lynda Wohlfahrt. Marsha's family would like to thank The Baptist Home of Rhinebeck for their tender care and compassion; their love made all the difference. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Brookmeade Community Foundation, 46 Brookmeade Dr., Rhinebeck, NY 12572. (www.brookmeadecommunity.org) At her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing hours. A Funeral Service will take place on September 10th, at 11am at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 Arrangements are by Sweet's Funeral Home, Hyde Park.
