Marlene Valerie
Drake
Feb 15, 1940 — May 1, 2026
MARLENE V. DRAKE – Walked out of her bed and into the Glory of the LORD on May 1, 2026, after courageously battling a long illness. She passed peacefully, with her husband by her side. Marlene was born in Medina, New York, the daughter of George F. Grah Sr. and Marion R. Dean.
Marlene's earlier years were on a farm where she loved the outdoors, learned to fix anything and cook and can everything. It was there that she lovingly raised and nurtured her two sons, David Seward and Keith Seward.
Marlene later met the love of her life, Robie Drake, and the two wed in 1989.
In 1983, Marlene became a nurse and began her career at Albany Medical Center, working the infectious disease floor at the beginning of the AIDS health crisis. She especially enjoyed working with developmentally disabled patients while working per diem for OPWDD. She later worked at skilled nursing facilities in the Hudson Valley. Marlene would always find time to sit with a patient who was transitioning, believing that no one should die alone. Marlene was a resident of Hyde Park for almost 40 years.
At home, Marlene enjoyed sitting and talking with her neighbors, gardening, crossword puzzles, mystery novels, and decorating her home. Marlene was also an animal lover and especially loved her kitties -- at one point having 9 cats in the house.
In addition to her husband and sons, Marlene is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Our deepest thanks to the many skilled and compassionate nurses, aides and supportive staff of Hudson Valley Hospice.
