Marjorie "Midge"
Millicker Schratz
Oct 22, 1929 — May 6, 2024
Marjorie "Midge" Millicker Schratz
A beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, age 94, passed peacefully on May 6, 2024, at her home in Hyde Park, NY. She was born in Manhattan on October 22,1929. She was the daughter of Anastasia Phelan and Daniel Millicker. She spent her childhood years along with her brothers and sister, Buddy, George, John, and Fran Millicker. Midge spent most of her life raising six children.
Midge received her BS degree from Marist College, and her MS degree from the University of Bridgeport. She also received her PhD in Psychology from Fordham University. Midge moved to Hyde Park to be closer to Marist College where she began her career as a professor.
Midge was an avid reader and was known to read several books in one night. Her thirst for learning followed her throughout life. She was proud of each of her children and instilled education as a priority in their lives as well.
A pioneer in her time who stood for humanity, perseverance and endless problem solving. Midge's secret to longevity was chocolate ice cream and a little Johnny Walker Black. An escape to the craps table or horse racetrack could heal everyday worries. Midge would want everyone to, "Stand up for what you believe in!" In recent years together we would sing, "Que Sera Sera – whatever will be will be. The future's not ours to see. Que Sera Sera - what will be will be."
She will be deeply missed by her family Dr. Mary Schratz and Bernie Rafacz, John Schratz (predeceased), Betsy Schratz, Jeanne and Paul Godridge, Michael Schratz, and Kelly and Ken Buxton. Along with her grandchildren Michael and Jill, Amy, and John Schratz, Katie and Gabe Gambino, Brett and Eileen Zingaro, Kyle and Ian Godridge, Jake, Connor, and Tabor Buxton. Midge is also survived by her two great grandchildren Nora and Lila Schratz.
Services will begin at 10 AM on Tuesday May 21, 2024, at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or www.hvhospice.org in Midge's name.
