Obituary

Maria A. Scano, a loving, and beautiful soul known for her creativity and collection of hats to her friends and family as Rie Rie or Maria, passed on peacefully early February 20, 2025 at the remarkable age of 95. Maria was born on April 1, 1929, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

A lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, Maria was the daughter of the late Damiano and Anna Scano. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Adam Pascale, and her siblings and their wives, Tony and Mary as well as Frank and Palma Scano. Her life was an inspiration to those who loved her and a testament to the love she bore for her family, including her niece and nephews, Billy and Nicole Schwiebert; Michael Scano, his wife, Lisa, as well as the late Steven Scano; her great-nephews, Nicholas and William; son, J. Bradley Pascale; and her grandchildren, Corey, Hayden, Daisy, Colbie, and her great-grandchildren, Lilly, Aurora, Rowen, and Elodie as well as her many dear friends, all of whom filled her heart with joy.

Professionally, Maria was a respected real estate agent and a licensed broker, dedicating years to helping others find their dream homes. Those who knew Maria will fondly remember her time spreading beauty as a Mary Kay consultant, as well as her passion for cooking, her affinity for theatre, and her iconic collection of hats, each symbolizing her vibrant personality and zest for life.

Maria's journey through life was marked by a passion for learning and creativity. In her early years Maria studied art at the Pratt Institute. Maria carried her love for art into every aspect of her life, with every stroke of her brush, every detail of her home, and with every meal she lovingly prepared for her family and friends.

The memories of Maria we each hold dear are the treasured keepsakes by which she will forever be remembered. Let us honor her memory by embracing the beauty around us and continuing to wear a smile, as Maria always did, offering warmth and kindness to all.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Maria's ashes, along with her son Adam's, will be buried in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. A graveside memorial will take place at 11 AM on Friday June 20th, with a celebration of life luncheon to follow details to be announced.

Maria's family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington St., Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (www.hvhospice.org) or Wounded Warrior Project, 370 Seventh St. Ste. 1802, New York, NY 10001. (www.woundedwarriorproject.org)
