Born November 1, 1929, in Saugerties, NY. She was the daughter of the late James Leonard Hackett and Madeline T. Brown. She attended St. Mary's of the Snow and graduated from Saugerties High School.
Madeline was a caregiver for her parents starting in her teenage years and took pride in caring for others right up until her passing.
On July 15th, 1962 Madeline married Bruce Wiley Curtiss. Mr. Curtiss predeceased her on June 28th, 2013.
In her younger years Madeline worked for NY Telephone, becoming a housewife when her children were born to care for them and ultimately returning to work for the Hyde Park Central School District as a Teacher's Assistant for many years before retiring in 2007.
She embodied the concept of others before herself, and was often found baking, making food for the holidays and always making sure everyone's favorite cake, cookie or dish was available.
When she wasn't taking care of others, she was bowling in different bowling leagues, becoming a champion bowler, even bowling a perfect game.
Madeline was very proud to be the first female to be approved for a house loan in the town of Saugerties.
Madeline is survived by her two children, Timothy Curtiss and wife Suzanne, of Wappingers Falls: and Margaret (Peg) Curtiss, of Hyde Park: two beloved grandchildren Daniella and Ashley Curtiss, and many nieces and nephews. She also adored her family's cats (DD and Aphey) and dogs (Yogi and Wiley).
Along with her husband, she was predeceased by her three siblings and their spouses: Vincent Hackett and wife Jen, James "Bud" Hackett and wife Loretta, and sister Helen Bach and husband William.
