Obituary

With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Linwood Burke Jr., affectionately known as Bunny and Pop. He passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2024, at the age of 83 surrounded by his loving family. Linwood was a man of immense pride, humor, wisdom, honor, respect and loyalty. He had an outgoing personality that drew you in and he cherished every moment spent with his family and friends.

Linwood was born the son of Linwood A. Burke Sr. and Elizabeth M. Burke-Walden on December 26, 1941 in Norfolk, Virginia. He joined the US Army in 1964 and served until his discharge. Linwood entered the trucking industry at an early age and instantly found his love. The freedom of the open road appealed to him. He spent over 50 years on the road, last working with Webster Trucking in Newburgh, NY. His trucking IQ, work ethic, commitment to service and professionalism were hallmarks of his professional life. His devotion, kindness, humility and generosity were renowned among all who knew him. The only thing Linwood loved more than being in his truck was being with his family, being with his children and grandchildren. Often, he would say, "my greatest gifts are my children". Truth is, he was our gift and all of us were blessed enough to have him in our lives for as long as we did.

He is predeceased by his parents Linwood A. Burke Sr. and Harriet K. (Fambles) Burke, mother-Elizabeth M. Burke- Walden, wife- Shirley Sellers- Burke and son- Joseph W. Burke and numerous aunts and uncles including Elsie, David Burke and Joe Fuller.

Survivors include his significant other Dorothy Huffman, son Linwood (Butch) Burke III & daughter- in -law Tonia Sweeney. Daughter Schiniqua Diaz, granddaughters Miranda, Mikayla, Jaonessa, Amelia; grandsons David, Linwood IV, Tavian and two great granddaughters La'Nova and Stormi. Linwood is also survived by his sisters La Verne Love & Jean Francis, Brother Johnie White and brother in-law William Francis. Special nieces Linda Burke- Wheeler and Constance Wright-Trenton and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family is especially grateful for the care and companionship Linwood and our entire family received from Dr. Lyons, DNP. Mulcahy and the entire staff of The Poughkeepsie Heart Center and Coumadin Clinic. As well as Dr. Davide DeBellis and staff of The Premier Medical Group.

Eternal rest granted to him, 0 Lord, may his soul rest in peace.
