Lena P. (Rose) Mathewson Lena (Dorrie) P. Van der Jagt (Rose), 86, of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the Lutheran Care Center. Born Monday, August 5, 1935 in Oud-Vossemeer, Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Leendert and Aagje Cornelia (Schuurmans) Van der Jagt. Lena graduated from Laan Van Nieuw Guinea in Utrecht, Netherlands. Upon finishing school, Lena moved to Paris France where she lived for four years and worked as an Au Pair. In Paris, she met former husband Robert Rose Jr. She immigrated on the Nieu Amsterdam July 9, 1957 to the USA where she raised her family. Lena worked as a seamstress for 15 years, a bank teller, in Accounts Receivable for WHVW Radio, and then as a Checking Department Clerk at Rome Savings Bank until her retirement in 1996. She was a founding and Life member of the Germania Almrausch Schuhplattler Verein of Poughkeepsie and held multiple positions in the organization during her active years. Lena loved to sew, knit and play cards. She traveled often and loved to spend time with her family in the USA and in Europe. She was affectionately known to many as Oma. Lena is survived by her son Robert Rose III (Karen) of Poughkeepsie NY; her Grandchildren Kristine (Micheal) Bloom of Parishville NY, Nicole (Nicholas) Dimon of Waddington NY, Victoria Rose of Millbrook NY and Rachael Rose of Millbrook NY; her Great-Grandchildren Emma Bloom, Kelly Bloom, Audrina Dimon and Jacklynn Dimon; her sister Adry Van der Jagt of Beek, Netherlands and several beloved nephews and family in the Netherlands and Switzerland. Lena was predeceased by her daughter Audrey Mousaw of De Kalb Junction NY and her sister Willi Wilschut of Nieuwegein, Netherlands. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. Calling hours will be on Saturday January 29th from 1 to 4pm, under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park, NY 12538. A burial service for the family will take place on Monday January 31st at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Lena's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
