Laurie Jean
Harden
Nov 13, 1963 — May 15, 2023
Laurie Jean Harden passed away May 15, 2023, at the Baptist Home, Rhinebeck, peacefully in her sleep after a long illness.
Born on November 13, 1963, in Mount Kisco, New York, she was the daughter of the late John David Weissgarber and Bertha Helen Woodstead and granddaughter of Michael and Anna (Quirk) Weissgarber, and Alf and Bertha (Johnson) Woodstead.
Laurie is survived by her husband, Steven M. of Red Hook; sons, Leo and Ryan Vogel; sister, Cherrie Reinhardt, and husband, Joseph; brother, Christopher Gebbia, and wife, Heather. She is also survived by her stepdaughters, Jessica Schubert and Danielle Jones (who were daughters in Laurie's eyes), along with four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, including Sara Reinhardt, and Jacob and Jesse Gebbia. Also surviving is sister-in-law Patricia Harden, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who were all very important parts of her life.
Laurie graduated from Arlington High School and from Dutchess Community College with an AAS Degree in Child Care. She went on to work for several local day cares, owned her own and eventually worked for Family of Woodstock before her retirement. Laurie volunteered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation for several years.
On June 13, 2015, in Hyde Park, NY, she married Steven M. Harden, and together they went to many hot air balloon festivals, including the Albuquerque New Mexico Hot Air Balloon Festival in 2016, which was a lifetime dream come true for Laurie. Her ashes will take one last hot air balloon ride and be interred at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
Laurie was Mom, first and foremost. She had the biggest heart and so much love to give. She loved the color purple, loved to make cards on her computer and send them to you on your birthday, and she always thought of others.
There are no words to describe what a kind, generous, and loving person Laurie was and how deeply she will be missed.
A period of memorial visitation will take place from 10 to 11 AM, Tuesday May 23rd at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 AM with Rev. Kregg Gabor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Laurie would have loved for you to make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Attn: Gift Processing, 1702 East Highland Ave., Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85016. (www.makeawish.org)
