HYDE PARK - Kenneth Williams Galloway, 93, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at The Thompson House in Rhinebeck. Mr. Galloway was a buyer and manager of the shoe department of the former M. Shwartz & Co. in Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1976, after 30 years of service. He was a lifelong area resident, a member of the Rhinebeck Chapter of AARP, a member of the Local 238 - 291 American Federation of Musicians Union and a member of the Reformed Church of Rhinebeck. He played the drums in the Rhinebeck American Legion Band and also played drums with Russ Gilmores Band and Joe Vincitores Band for many years at many different venues. While serving in the US Army during World War II, he was a drummer with the 212th Army Ground Forces Band. Mr. Galloway enjoyed playing golf. Born June 21, 1909 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Lester and Anna Williams Galloway. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1927. On March 29, 1934 in Poughkeepsie, he married Hazel Coons. Mrs. Galloway died Dec. 15,1990. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Ann Galloway of Rockville, MD. and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Harold Galloway. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, at Sweets Funeral Home Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Vanderlaan will officiate. Entombment with military honors will be in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
