Kenneth Richard Bartlett, 87, of Rhinebeck, NY, previously of Hyde Park, NY, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at home with his family by his side. Born on September 13, 1934, in Irondequoit, NY, he was the son of Truman and Alice Reddy Bartlett. As a child, Kenny moved to Hyde Park in 1945.
Kenny was laid-back, quiet, and just a nice guy to be around - hence the hilarity of him working as a "soda jerk" as one of his first jobs. A United States Army veteran, Kenneth served from 1957 to 1959 and spent part of this time in Germany. Kenny always said that he was there the same time as Elvis, although he never met him! In his single days, he was the fun uncle who shared vacations with his nieces and nephews and they gave him the nickname "Captain Jell."
Kenny lived around the corner from Carol Ann Erts, but it was his sister, Dorothy who introduced the pair. On September 20, 1969, he married Carol at Regina Coeli Catholic Church, Hyde Park. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary last November.
Kenny was a modern, hands-on dad who loved having three sons. While raising his family, he worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie as a field engineer for thirty-five years. After retiring, Kenny and his sister Mary volunteered for six years with Meals on Wheels in Hyde Park.
Kenny enjoyed watching the NY Rangers and Yankees, fiddling with the latest and greatest in technology and devices, making apple pie at Thanksgiving, and watching his grandchildren play in the driveway. Though our faces may be wet with tears, we find comfort in the memory of his dry sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Kenneth is survived by his three sons, Steven of Mooresville, NC, Michael (Tara) of Hyde Park, NY and Brian Bartlett (Jennie) of Maynard, MA, a sister, Mary Downes of Hyde Park, NY, three
grandchildren, Gavin, Maeve and Michael Bartlett, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Richard and Joyce Bartlett, and a brother, Richard Bartlett.
Friends and relatives may call from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., 4365 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Regina Coeli Church , Rte. 9, Hyde Park, NY followed by burial at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
